3 unique routes for hiking in winter

Although temperatures are quite mild all year round in Tenerife, winter is one of the best times to walk around the island.

Any area of Tenerife is ideal for hiking, but the most beautiful are inland: in the Anaga Rural Park, Teide National Park, Corona Forestal Natural Park and Teno Rural Park. And then there are the coastal trails, perfect for sea lovers.

Cruz del Carmen - Punta del Hidalgo

Its ten kilometers long and a 916 meters difference in altitude allow a route from the top of Tenerife to the beach. It has a medium difficulty that combines trail, forest track and some areas of road layout. The estimated time to complete this route is between three and a half and four hours.

The Cruz del Carmen-Taganana route is actually an old "rural highway" that the punteros, the inhabitants of Punta del Hidalgo, used to go up to Cruz del Carmen and, from there, travel to La Laguna or Santa Cruz. The route begins at Cruz del Carmen.

 Afur - Taganana

Through the Afur ravine there are some approved trails for hiking, but from Marca Canaria we recommend the Afur-Taganana circular trail, one of the most beautiful on the island of Tenerife.

Coast of the Anaga Rural Park

This route can be started in either of the two villages, Taganana or Afur. You can enjoy the hamlets and landscapesof the north coast of Anaga, as well as the Tamadiste Beach and also observe closely the Piedra de los Guanches. In addition, in rainy seasons, the trail becomes even more impressive, as the water flow through the ravine is even greater.

El Pijaral in Anaga

The El Pijaral trail, located in the Anaga Rural Park, is considered the most beautiful in Tenerife. Known as El bosque encantado, it is one of the few, along with Pico del Teide and Masca, for which permission must be requested from the Cabildo of Tenerife.

Water course in the Barranco de Afur ravine

Part of the area of La Ensillada, passing the Montes de Anaga lodge. Its fern forests enjoy extraordinary conditions of humidity and temperature since it is in the embrace of the trade winds. This laurel forest hides one of the best views of the Natural Reserve. It is a circular trail of 6 kilometers with a low difficulty, about four hours long, ideal for families to be accompanied by the little ones.
