The best beaches of La Graciosa

Small, quiet, without asphalt or pollution, unspoiled nature, paradisiacal beaches of turquoise waters and white sand, austere landscapes, hardly inhabited.....So is this small island belonging to the Canary archipelago, a true natural paradise, and in this article we will talk about its beaches, specifically the best beaches of La Graciosa.

La Graciosa, a small treasure

La Graciosa is a small island of 29 square kilometers located northwest of the island of Lanzarote. Together with four islets, Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste, it is part of the Natural Park of the Chinijo Archipelago.

It is inhabited by no more than 700 gracioseros and gracioseras, the name by which the inhabitants of this island are known. It has only two population centers, on the one hand, Caleta de Sebo, capital of the island and where most of the population is concentrated, and on the other hand, Pedro Barba.

This paradise away from all the hustle and bustle and without roads is the perfect place to disconnect and enjoy a few days of absolute calm and relaxation, surrounded by an unspoiled landscape with wonderful and often secluded beaches. Getting around the island is easy, walking, cycling or by 4×4 cab.

In addition, the island of La Graciosa is located within the Marine Reserve of the Chinijo Archipelago, which, with its 70,700 hectares, is the largest marine reserve in Europe and an area of exceptional scenic value.

The beaches of La Graciosa, a natural landscape

As we have already mentioned, the eighth Canary Island is a paradise of virgin and wild beaches, almost deserted . Below we will mention the beaches of La Graciosa that you have to see at least once in your life and, of course, take a swim and enjoy the Atlantic.

La Francesa Beach

Located in the south of the island, its fine white sand and calm turquoise waters make it a favorite for visitors to La Graciosa, one of the best along with the beach of Las Conchas. It is also the perfect place to practice snorkeling and to go with children.

This paradisiacal corner offers spectacular views of the Riscos de Famara, in Lanzarote, and at the top of which is the "Mirador del Río", one of the works of the brilliant Lanzarote artist César Manrique, which in turn offers a spectacular view of this small island.

La Cocina Beach

Near the beach of La Francesa and about six kilometers from Caleta de Sebo is the beach of La Cocina, also known as Montaña Amarilla beach. Sheltered from the currents of the narrow arm of the sea that separates La Graciosa from Lanzarote, known as El Río, in this wonderful virgin cove of white sand you can enjoy a relaxing swim in its crystal clear waters. In addition, this beach extends at the foot of the ancient volcano of Montaña Amarilla, whose ocher colors contrast with the turquoise and emerald green tones of the ocean waters.

El Salado Beach

A little more than 15 minutes walk along a simple path from Caleta de Sebo, and without losing sight of the Riscos de Famara, you reach the beach of El Salado. It is a wonderful beach two kilometers long, the largest on the island, with white sand and calm waters, surrounded by small dunes and with incredible views of the volcano of Montaña Amarilla and other equally impressive.

Very close to El Salado is the only camping area allowed in La Graciosa. This beach is the perfect place to sunbathe and refresh yourself in the waters of the largest Marine Reserve in Europe.

Las Conchas Beach

In the northwest of the island is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches of La Graciosa, an hour's walk from Caleta de Sebo. A blanket of white sand that contrasts with the red tones of the volcano of Montaña Bermeja, surrounded by a unique environment and with privileged views of the islet of Montaña Clara. Here the waves are rough, so bathing is not recommended most days, but the beauty of this corner of the island is such that it does not matter to forget the dip. It is the perfect place to take the best photos of the trip.

Amber beach or Lambra beach

Near the natural stone arches of Los Caletones is located the beach of Amber or Lambra beach. It is located near Pedro Barba, the other inhabited nucleus of La Graciosa composed of about twenty houses that are only occupied in summer. The beach of crystalline waters is surrounded by white sand dunes and volcanic rocks, creating a beautiful contrast of textures and colors.

It is a wild and unfrequented place, nature in its purest state, making it ideal to forget the world and disconnect. Exposed to the north winds, it is advisable to take extreme precautions during the bath due to the currents. In addition, in the background you will have the image of the islet of Alegranza, a marvel!
