The Canary Islands are an archipelago with many contrasts and different environments where it is possible to carry out different activities and unique excursions. Cueva la Vaca in Tenerife is one of those different places that can be found in the Canary Islands with the unique contrast of the volcanic relief in contact with the sea. It is an ideal place to take a dip in a pool in a singular and unique environment.
La Cueva de la Vaca in Tenerife
The Cueva de la Vaca, in the south of Tenerife, is located in the municipality of Santiago del Teide. It is a natural pool surrounded by a kind of crown formed by volcanic rocks. The waves constantly enter the pool producing a striking effect and making the water always clean and crystalline.
When the tide is low, the cave known as Cueva la Vaca is shown in all its splendour as the volcanic formation that surrounds it can be appreciated.
Despite being a very attractive spot and one of the most spectacular caves in Tenerife, the Cueva de la Vaca is not a place that is usually visited by tourists. Even many of the island's own inhabitants are unaware of its existence.
Everything you should know about Cueva de la Vaca
To get to the Cueva de la Vaca you have to go to Santiago del Teide, which is about 40 kilometres from Tenerife South Airport. Then you have to get to Playa de la Arena, where the pool is located. From the southern airport it will take just over half an hour, as most of the journey is by motorway. From Santa Cruz or the North airport it will take considerably longer, as it is more than 150 km away.
Access to the Cueva de la Vaca is very easy, as it is only necessary to walk a few metres from a nearby residential area to reach it. Its proximity to the Playa de la Arena beach makes it possible to alternate the visit to the Cueva de la Vaca with bathing on this black sand beach.
The Acantilado de los Gigantes is one of the most spectacular areas of the island with huge cliffs on the seashore and is relatively close to this sea cave in Tenerife. A visit to Los Gigantes is usually a good alternative to spend a different day visiting both locations.
As is usual in the south of Tenerife, the weather is usually warm, with clear skies and temperatures that invite you to swim, so even in winter it is a good time to take a dip in the Cueva de la Vaca.
Taking a dip in the Cueva de la Vaca will be a truly unique experience. Enjoying a pool of turquoise water completely surrounded by volcanic rocks is a unique sensation that you will be able to capture in spectacular photos and videos.
This natural pool is located in an ideal area to be able to alternate the visit with other interesting locations, which makes it worthwhile to go on this adventure to discover one of the many secret places hidden on the island of Tenerife.
