Barranco de las Vacas, a memorable landscape

Gran Canaria is an island located in the Canary Islands and has a volcanic origin. Among its many attractions and beauties, this island stands out for its ravines such as Guayadeque or Las Vacas. This last one has acquired great popularity during the last years due to some of the rocky formations that it has and that have great similarity with the Antelope Canyon (to the north of Arizona, in the United States).

Here is where the Barranco de las VacasHow to get there and when is the best time to visit. Finally, we recommend what to do when going on an excursion to the Barranco de las Vacas.

Where is the Barranco de las Vacas?

The Barranco de las Vacas is located in Gran CanariaMore specifically, in the village of Aguimes, located in the south of the island, about 40 km by road from the capital, Las Palmas.

How to get to Barranco de las Vacas

To access the Barranco de las Vacas you must follow the road that leads to the descent of the Coloured Tobas. There is hardly any space to park two cars at the access to the ravine, although following the road you will find different areas where you can leave your car at a distance of 100 and 200 meters.

From the road to the area of the Tobas de Colores, there is a stretch of barely 5 minutes without difficulty or danger, so it is not necessary to be equipped for a long walk, and it is even possible to come to the visit with children.

What is the best time to go to the Barranco de las Vacas

Given the great popularity this area has gained over the last few years, weekends are the worst time to visit (especially on Sundays), as the large influx of residents makes it difficult to find parking in nearby areas.

The best thing to do is to take the excursion midweek in a working day, to be able to easily access the ravine and enjoy its amazing rock formations. The climate in the Canary Islands is one of its great treasures, so visiting early in the morning can be a unique and unforgettable experience.

What to do in the Barranco de las Vacas

The main attraction of the Barranco de las Vacas is to admire how the streams of water, which flowed in the past through the ravine, have left their mark on the rocks and the surface of the ravine.

As it is a short route, you will have time to visit the village of Agüimes and enjoy its gastronomy and traditional shops, and see Temisas (a beautiful landscape declared a representative Canarian farmhouse by the Canary Islands Government).

The question of what to see in Agüimes can be answered by the Parish Temple of San Sebastián, the traditional shops and its ravines. The Barranco de las Vacas ravine stands out for its beauty and peculiar rock formations and has become a great tourist attraction for both visitors to the island and the residents themselves.
